Funded projects 2020
The 2020 Youth Opportunities projects have been announced.
Since the program was launched in 2012, Youth Opportunities has provided $13.3 million in funding to 282 projects across NSW. The 2020 Youth Opportunities projects are:

The project targets young people of CALD backgrounds and is designed to improve physical, mental and emotional well being and equip young people with confidence, transferable skills and qualifications for further study and employment.||$45,850.00|
|Boambee East Community Centre Inc||Country to Coast Creativity|| Young people will be supported to develop and run a series of “Pop Up” art, cultural and music workshops in communities across the Coffs Harbour LGA, with a focus on rural isolated communities, culminating in a showcase event. |

|Boys To The Bush Ltd||Shed Talks - Boys to the Bush||Youth Opportunities funding will support the creation of three Boys to the Bush (BttB) Shed Talks projects in Albury, Forbes and Bathurst, offering up to 300 disadvantaged regional youth aged 10-19yrs significantly more opportunities to meet, eat and mix with members of their local community in 2021.|
|Burraga Foundation Ltd||Storylines Youth Ambassadors|| Sharing stories from the past and present, to inspire the future. Young people will participate in local|
workshops discussing what is important to them about their local culture, history and
heritage, then learn the skills and protocols required to engage, and consult with their Aboriginal
community and Elders to produce stories.
|Byron Youth Service Inc||Creatures Youth Arts Project: exploring belonging in post-Pandemic Byron Bay||Creatures is a youth-led multi-artform project addressing social exclusion of at-risk young people in the Byron Shire as we emerge from pandemic. Young people will create, perform and exhibit visual arts, physical theatre and song writing to express their identity and belonging in the community.|
|Canterbury-Bankstown Council||Youth Crew's Community Connect Project||The Community Connect Project will operate out of Belmore Youth Resource Centre and train Council’s Youth Crew to host peer led support groups which explore issues of concern for youth and increase belonging in the community. The centre will also host monthly trainings to develop employment and other life skills.|
|Corowa District Landcare Incorporated||Youth, Create and Celebrate Environment Project||Emerging leaders will develop an environmentally focused wetland project connecting youth with community groups in rural and isolated communities. Mentoring and training from community leaders will empower youth to engage with revegetation projects, creating habitat for threatened and endangered species, digital storytelling, arts and environmental workshops, building community connections and capacity.|
|Enough Is Enough Anti Violence Movement Incorporated||Youth Ally||Youth Ally will give a voice to young people to discuss mental health issues that young people face, exacerbated by the current global pandemic. This will include a fortnightly production of podcasts, training and development events and a film competition for young people, judged by young people.|
|Gallipoli Turkish Cultural Foundation Limited||Greater participation through Confident Identities||GPTCI aims to strengthen the self-identity, self-esteem and confidence of CALD youth living in and around Auburn NSW via a multicultural youth expo showcasing their unique culture and individual talents, followed by the creation of an online platform for participants to network, access information and share opportunities for community participation.|
|Greenacre Area Community Centre Incorporated||Greenacre Youth Hub (GYH)|| The Greenacre Youth Hub is a physical space dedicated to young people for the pursuit of activities and programs to address important community issues. |
The "Hub" consists of fortnightly sessions including Cafe' style social and informal get togethers, sporting and recreational activities, arts based cultural activities and life skills workshops.
|Host International Ltd.||Cultural Transitions: Migrant Youth and communities becoming Australian||The Cultural Transitions project will create a dynamic film resource made by young migrants and refugees exploring belonging, family and community dynamics during settlement. The aim of the project is to bridge perspectives between youth, family, community leaders and service providers through exploring what it means to become Australian.|
|Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation||Aboriginal Youth Mentoring Program - Positive Connections||The Positive Connections project will establish an Aboriginal youth network based on cultural safety, with group activities and individual mentoring. Building a holistic approach for young Aboriginal people 12 - 18 years in the Sutherland Shire will address the absence of services for Aboriginal youth and provide much needed connection to culture and community.|
|Kyogle Together Incorporated||Swoopin Season Mentor Program||Swoopin’ Season Mentor Program will employ a local person in the position of Youth Community Development Officer to support ‘younger’ young people (aged 12-18) to identify, organise, host and analyse an event or training opportunity of their choosing in their specific community of the Kyogle LGA.|
|Leaderlife Limited||Giving Young People a Zest For Life||LeaderLife will take their lime farm impact enterprise to the next level by manufacturing lime cordial and other value adding products. For young people with complex histories, having unique opportunities, finding purpose, supported employment and positive mentors is paramount to helping them work and live their best life.|
|Lithgow City Council||Create Lithgow||Create Lithgow is a year long project of professional development for young people in the creative industries. These young people will develop skills in event management, media and communications, self publishing, recording and contracts, sound mixing and various other aspects of the creative industry.|
|Marathon Health Ltd||Sound Check||The 'headspace Sound Check' will provide young people a safe place without barriers to practice and connect via music in a group setting while being supported by skilled mentors. The project aims to provide a pathway to performance along with supporting young musicians in exploring their musical creativity.|
|Miyay Birray Youth Service Inc||Youth and community participation Project|| The project focuses on leadership and youth-led events. Miyay Birray Youth Service Advisory|
Group will work to deliver a series of youth-led events and workshops within Moree and
Mungindi. The aim is to increase youth participation and engagement whilst increasing
opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills and knowledge.
|Moree Plains Shire Council||Lets Connect Youth Camp||I know my friend needs help, but I do not know how to help them. The Moree Youth Group will be delivering three, one day, Lets Connect Youth Camps in Moree, Mungindi and Boggabilla. The aim of each camp is to provide young people the tools to help others.|
|Nambucca Valley Youth Services Inc||Youth Mobile Cafe - On Track and Reaching Community||The Youth Mobile Cafe supports young people to build confidence and experience, and gain knowledge and skills transferable across life-work. Young people will explore hospitality, communication, business and self-care, and practise through hands-on learning. Teams will run the Cafe at local events, celebrate their achievements and connect with peers and wider community.|
|North Sydney Council||Mates, dates and everything in between: youth-produced relationship podcasts|| Through a podcast series, this project drives meaningful conversations about young adult relationships. |
Young people will be mentored by health professionals and media curators to create supportive and informative podcasting episodes.
In turn, podcast listeners will learn how to assess the health of their relationships and recognise patterns of abuse.
|Northern Beaches Council||Events by Youth for Youth (Working Title)||Events for Youth by Youth is an opportunity for young people to learn project management and be mentored by industry professionals and the Library and Youth team. Mentorship will upskill, inspire and empower young people to run events to improve access, inclusion, and subsequent wellbeing.|
|NSW Service For The Treatment And Rehabilitation Of Torture And Trauma Survivors (STARTTS)||Arts@STARTTS_Sharing Stories Sharing Place||Arts@STARTTS_Sharing Stories Sharing Place is a weekly drama program for local refugee young people aged 12 to 18 years designed to develop arts based skills while building trust, connection and a sense of community belonging.|
|One Giant Leap Australia Foundation Ltd||The Gadget Girls||The Gadget Girls aim to break down the gender imbalance in robotics, coding and programming. Girls in Years 5 to 7 will attend community workshops to build their skills and confidence, inspiring them to take up a STEM career and building a state-wide support network.|
|Project Youth Incorporated||Labour Y peer ed||Project Youth Labour Y peer education - work readiness program will assist young people to increase their employability skills, access employment options and strive to achieve personal and professional goals through inspiring peer education and mentoring by young entrepreneurs and business volunteers.|
|Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council||Media Arts for Queanbeyan-Palerang Youth||Media Arts for Queanbeyan-Palerang Youth project will provide mentoring for young people by developing media-arts & film-making skills, to produce their own short films from a variety of processes. The project will culminate in a youth-driven, organised and curated film festival, showcasing their videos to the community.|
|Southern Youth And Family Services Limited||Our Voices||The project will allow young people to come together to express the issues affecting them through songs and music through a series of workshops aimed at developing their musical skills to write and record their work in a recording studio and then perform their work to an appropriately sized audience.|
|St George Community Housing Limited||Youth 4 Unity||Youth 4 Unity will see community housing provider SGCH partner with their established Youth Council in Bonnyrigg to set up a number of groups for youth living in SGCH’s social and affordable housing across Sydney. These groups will plan and implement a range of programs to engage and empower youth.|
|Sydney University Settlement||Strong Minds and Healthy Spirits Young Men's and Women's Groups||Strong Minds and Healthy Spirits' is a program for young men and young women running over 4 terms in 2021 that will be designed and delivered with and by young people focussing on building knowledge, skills, and confidence to take control of their social, emotional and physical health and wellbeing.|
|Temora Shire Council||T-Town YOUthMade Markets||T-Town YOUthMade Markets connects young entrepreneurs with experienced business owners to create a mentoring opportunity in which the youth will develop skills in financial literacy, product development, retail sales, promotion, marketing and branding; then supporting the young people to sell their products to the public in a professional setting.|
|The Council Of The Municipality Of Kiama||Create to Connect|| A youth-driven creative arts project that empowers young people to develop their skills by linking them with inter-generational mentoring, skill development and opportunities to showcase their work. |
The project will leverage the mental health, well being and career enhancing benefits of self-expression through creative exploration and community connection.
|The Foundation For Young Australians||Street 2 Stage||The Street to Stage project will train and employ young people with a lived experience of homelessness to design and deliver a creative learning and development model that will support young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness to build their enterprising skills through creativity and music.|
|The Northcott Society||Experience Tasker: Youth-led work experience for young people with disability||Young people with disability in Casula will boost their community engagement and independence by establishing a simulated support business to develop vocational skills and access positive and authentic work experience. The social venture will empower their growth mindset, agility, skills and practical experience to embrace work and life opportunities.|
|Waverley Action For Youth Services||WAYS Youth Connecting with Community||The WAYS Youth Connecting with Community project is a youth led initiative to provide increased involvement and support for Community organisations and events that assist people in need in the Bondi and Waverly area of Sydney.|
|Winanga-Li Aboriginal Child and Family Centre Incorporated||Yarn & Circle||Yarn & Circle is an initiative to build the capacity of young people to practice mindfulness techniques and support each other through the timeless art of weaving. Weaving circles are an evidenced method of creating a safe space for women to connect, share and bond.|
|Yp Space Mnc Incorporated||YPS SWAG Podcasting Project||The YPS SWAG Podcasting Project is a youth led platform for young people to have a voice on issues affecting youth in the Kempsey - Port Macquarie region. The process of creating a series of podcasts will provide opportunities to improve skills such leadership, communication, problem solving and networking.|
