The law and legal rights of young people
- Need information on the legal issues for young people in NSW? Check out the National Children's and Youth Law Centre (NCYLC) at lawstuff.org.au. The site provides information and stories on many legal topics, including drugs, employment, getting a tattoo and buying a car.
- Download a brochure about Your Rights as a Victim of Crime or a flyer with information about the Charter of Victims Rights for Young People
- Read the Reach Out! fact sheet on young people's rights when it comes to accessing health care and medical confidentiality.
- The Legal Aid Commission has developed the Street Smart brochure to inform under-18s of their rights when dealing with police on the streets in NSW.
- Find out more about the Young Offenders Act, which changes the way police and the justice system deal with young offenders.
- The Legal Aid Hotline for Under 18s provides legal advice to young people who have committed or are suspected of committing an offence. Telephone 1800 10 18 10.
- Learn about your rights as an employee.
- If you think you're being treated unfairly because of your age, sex, race or because you have a disability, check out the Discrimination and harassment links.
- Over 18 and don't have photo ID? Apply for a Photo Card from the RTA.
- If you're having problems with Social Security issues or Centrelink the Welfare Rights Centre may be able to help.
- Just search The Law and Justice Foundation of NSW search engine for finding justice-related information on socially and disadvantaged people.
- Legislation is in NSW Parliament to restrict body piercing for children under the age of 16 years, and tattooing for children and young people under 18 years of age. For more information go to parliament.nsw.gov.au and look for 'bills'.
