Knowing about your rights at work

  • On 1 January 2010, private sector NSW employees previously covered by the NSW state award system moved into the national workplace relations system administered by the federal government.

    Fairwork provides information about wages and conditions of employment in Australia for work that is covered by federal awards and agreements. You can also ring the Fair Work Infoline on 13 13 94.

  • Visit young people at work to find out more about your rights and entitlements and what responsibilities you may have in your workplace.

  • See theLawstuff website for information on your legal rights at work, including what to do if you're being given a hard time by someone at work. Go to on the job.

  • The WorkCover NSW website has a section on workplace safety for young workers, to help you better understand your rights and obligations Hazard a Guess is an interactive eLearning tool to learn about your rights and responsibilities.   • YAPA (Youth Action and Policy Association) has produced "Girls@Work: Getting a Fair Go", a booklet on workplace issues for high school aged students, focusing on issues that affect young people in general, as well as the particular needs of young women.  Ring Joanne on (02) 9319 1100 ext. 3 for a free hard copy (NSW only & while stocks last) or, if you have broadband, the PDF booklet can be downloaded at Girls at work (2.9MB).
