  • Minister for Youth, Kate Ellis MP, has launched an online body image survey to support the Australian Government’s efforts in tackling negative body image. The Online Consultation on Body Image is designed to gain insight into causes of negative body image and gather practical solutions for inclusion in the National Strategy on Body Image.

  • Reach Out! has information about illness and staying healthy and young people's rights regarding health care and confidentiality, as well as a section about eating disorders.

  • A new Youth Drug Support website providing young people with information on a range of issues including drugs and alcohol, mental and sexual health, has been set up under the auspices of Family Drug Support.  Funded by the NSW Government, the site provides information and support, plus the oportunity to ask questions via email, text or telephone.  Go to www.yds.org.au.

  • The NSW Centre for the Advancement of Adolescent Health (CAAH) and The New South Wales Association for Adolescent Health (NAAH) provide listings of Youth Health Services in NSW.  Each health service is unique and provides services and programs that have been developed to address the needs in their area.

  • The NSW Health website has an A-Z index of common health topics and you can also search for health services in your area. .

  • www.somazone.com.au is an Australian website that was developed by young people for young people to provide fast, free, anonymous access to quality assured information about health services.The site provides an anonymous question and answer service, publishes personal stories, and provides useful information on a range of youth services.

  • The Family and Community Development Committee of Victorian Parliament has reported on young people and body image.  To download a copy of the report, go to www.parliament.vic.gov.au/fcdc/default.htm and choose 'Recent Reports'.

  • A new Chair of Adolescent Health at the University of Sydney has been created to integrate the various strands of research and teaching and promote youth health issues.  The Faculty of Medicine and the Medical Foundation of the University of Sydney in partnership with the Children's Hospital at Westmead Clinical School have launched the Health Futures for Young People Appeal to raise monety to fund the Chair.  To donate to the Healthy Futures for Young People Appeal call 1800 33 00 76, or donate online.
